When Portugal takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1 January 2021, one of the main items on its agenda is reportedly the resumption of talks for the introduction of public Country-by-Country (CbC) reporting. Lower-level meetings on a proposal for the introduction of public CbC reporting are to take place in late January and early February, with the possibility of bringing the proposal to the ministers during their meeting scheduled for 25 February 2021. First proposed in April 2016, public CbC reporting in the EU has been a divisive issue, with a large number of EU Member States opposed to the idea. However, certain Member States are reportedly shifting their position in favor of the proposal (or at least not opposed to it).
