Update - EAEU Temporarily Increased Duty-Free Threshold for Import of Goods for Personal Use — Orbitax Tax News & Alerts

On 15 April 2022, the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) approved a temporary increase in the duty-free (exemption) threshold to EUR 1,000 (or 31 kg) for goods that are imported by individuals for personal use, which applies until 1 October 2022. This is similar to the increase approved in March 2022, although according to the release on the latest approval, the threshold is increased from EUR 500 (or 25 kg), as opposed to being increased from EUR 200 as noted in the release on the earlier approval. Although somewhat unclear, this appears to indicate that the threshold will revert to EUR 500 (or 25 kg) from 1 October 2022, rather than EUR 200. Moreover, it is noted that if the import of goods for personal use exceeds the specified thresholds, duty will be payable at a rate of 30% of the cost, but not less than EUR 4 euros per 1 kg.

Note, the EEC is the regulatory body of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.
