During its meeting held 29 June 2021, the Spanish Council of Ministers adopted an agreement that acknowledges Turkmenistan's notice of termination of the 1985 tax treaty between Spain and the former Soviet Union as it applied in relation to Spain and Turkmenistan. The summary of the Council of Minister's meeting notes that the two countries had agreed to continue the application of the treaty but notice of termination was given by Turkmenistan in 1999. As such, the tax treaty ceased to have legal effect from 1 January 2000 in accordance with the terms of the treaty. The agreement acknowledging the termination will be sent to parliament, after which formal notice will be published in the Official Gazette.
