Singapore Publishes New Guidance on Imports of Low-Value Goods, Updated Guidance on Purchase of Remote Services, and Related Draft Guidance — Orbitax Tax News & Alerts

The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) has published new guidance regarding GST on Imports of Low-Value Goods and GST on Imported Low-Value Goods. The guidance concerns GST changes recently announced as part of Budget 2021, including that with effect from 1 January 2023, GST will be extended to:

  • Goods imported via air or post that are valued up to (and including) the current GST import relief threshold of SGD 400; and
  • Business-to-consumer (B2C) imported non-digital services.

Guidance on Purchasing Remote Services from Overseas Service Providers has also been updated in relation to the changes from 1 January 2023.

In relation to the changes, the IRAS is conducting a public consultation from 26 Feb to 19 Mar 2021 before finalizing the implementation details. Businesses are invited to give their feedback.
