The Moldovan Government has announced an increase in the minimum monthly salary/wage from MDL 3,500 to MDL 4,000 from 1 January 2023. Among other things, this amount is used in relation to the new minimum social security (insurance) contribution requirement introduced in August 2022. Under prior rules, employers are required to pay social security contributions based on the gross salary, wages, etc. paid to employees, with no set minimum. Under the new rules, the minimum contribution is introduced equal to 25% of the minimum monthly salary/wage. Considering the increase in the minimum monthly salary/wage of MDL 4,000, this results in a minimum contribution of MDL 1,000 in 2023.
