According to a release from the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, officials from Latvia and New Zealand met on 9 to 10 August 2022 to discuss bilateral relations, including Latvia's interest in negotiating an income tax treaty. Any resulting treaty would be the first of its kind between the two countries and must be finalized, signed, and ratified before entering into force.
