On 12 January 2022, the Kazakhstan Mazhilis (lower house of parliament) approved the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the U.S. for the implementation of FATCA, which has now been forwarded to the Senate (upper house) for approval. The IGA was signed on 11 September 2017, and although the ratification procedures are not complete, Kazakhstan is treated as having an IGA in effect with the U.S. from 30 November 2014.
