On 13 April, the Irish Government announced further measures to address rising energy costs. Measures include a reduction in the VAT rate on the supply of gas and electricity from 13.5% to 9% for a temporary period from 1 May to 31 October 2022. It is also provided that the temporary reduction in excise duty on fuels effective from 10 March 2022 will be extended until Budget Day in October 2022, instead of ending 31 August 2022, along with a further reduction in the excise levied on marked gas oil (green diesel). Lastly, it is provided that households eligible for the Fuel Allowance will receive an extra lump sum payment of EUR 100 in May 2022.
