El Salvador's Ministry of Finance has announced the issuance of guidance following the entry into force of a new tax amnesty regime that was approved by the Legislative Assembly on 24 August 2022 and entered into force on 25 August 2022. The tax amnesty grants the opportunity for all taxpayers to normalize their tax situation with the payment of outstanding taxes due without interest, surcharges, or fines. The tax amnesty generally covers all tax and customs obligations that expired prior to 25 August 2022, including annual obligations up to the 2021 tax year, as well as monthly obligations up to the July 2022 period. Outstanding tax obligations can be paid in full or in up to 9 monthly installments, with an initial installment equal to 10% of the amount due. Taxpayers that wish to benefit from the tax amnesty must submit an application by 1 November 2022.
