Danish Government Reaches Agreement on 6% Cultural Contribution on Streaming Services — Orbitax Tax News & Alerts

The Danish Ministry of Culture has announced that the government and different political parties have agreed to a new media agreement that, among other things, includes the introduction of a cultural contribution on streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HBO that is to be implemented in 2024. As agreed, the cultural contribution would be in the form of a levy at the rate of 6% on the turnover derived in Denmark from such services, which is up from the 5% levy originally proposed. The original proposal also provided for a reduction of the cultural contribution for streaming services that invest directly in the production of Danish content, although this is not mentioned as part of the media agreement.
