Orbitax Software, founded by experienced veterans in international tax practice was formally announced today. The company is the result of a merger of the respective software businesses of IBFD Publications BV and Global CBS Ltd, both which were launched in mid-2003. Orbitax is the exclusive software partner of IBFD.
IBFD has been the premier content source for international tax professionals for more than 65 years. Its 50+ team of tax professionals supported by more a worldwide correspondent network is the leading knowledge center in the world for international and comparative taxation. IBFD Software Solutions was created to deliver to customers worldwide the deep tax knowledge of IBFD through technology.
Global CBS Ltd. was created by Don Chung and Gratian Joseph to address inefficiencies observed in their working lives as international tax partners with KPMG. Its aim was to deliver to tax professionals a comprehensive set of solutions that improved productivity, increased assurance and delivered to users the benefits of innovative tax strategies. The company developed its first product, the International Tax Expert, with the research support of IBFD.
The companies concluded that a merger would enable both partners to achieve their aims. “We formed this company because we believe that there is a gap between the needs of tax professionals and what they currently have available” said Willem Falter, CEO of IBFD. “Most international tax applications were developed in the pre-Internet environment. We are creating software from scratch that addresses the need for online access, ready linkage to underlying laws and commentary on the www.ibfd.org portal and customer needs for transparency.”
“Our products will be affordable, easy-to-use and embrace industry standards, such as Microsoft .NET, XML (Extensible Markup Language), and ultimately XBRL (Extensible Business Reporting Language),” commented Gratian Joseph, CEO of Orbitax. “All Orbitax products fully integrate with the most common business software on the desktop, Microsoft Word and Excel and with the leading online tax research platforms in the world.”
