Norway's Ministry of Finance has launched a public consultation on a proposal for withholding tax on interest and royalties. Currently, Norway does not levy withholding tax on interest and royalty payments.
The proposal includes that withholding tax would be levied at a rate of 15% (unless a lower rate is provided under a tax treaty) on:
Further, withholding at a rate of 15% is being considered on payments to related companies abroad for the leasing of certain physical assets. The Ministry aims for the rules to come into force with effect from 1 January 2021.
The deadline for comments is 27 May 2020.
